When turning on a machine, the standard Windows Logon screen appears and a user is able to successfully enter their credentials. However, after loading into their profile, they are greeted with a black screen. The desktop icons are not present, nor is the taskbar. You cannot right click on the desktop, use WIN + R to launch a run prompt, or any other traditional operations.
Explorer.exe failed to launch successfully during the start-up process. You should be able to find application event logs with additional details.
Press CTRL + ALT + DEL and open the task manager. Go to File > Run New Task. Type ‘explorer.exe’ and press OK. The desktop icons, taskbar, and background should populate.
